Oil Leak Protest
I talked to someone the other day who didn’t know that BP was leaking oil into the Gulf of Mexico. That was horrifying to me. As a generation who has access to information at a level that has never before been seen we have no excuse. We’re also the laziest and most apathetic generation. We like to complain but we don’t like to do anything that might interfere with our every day lives. I’ve been so sickened by this whole thing that I’ve been physically ill. So many people take the attitude of “well I can’t do anything” and just criticize others for not acting quick enough. This leak threatens us all. The whole human race. We can’t live without the ocean and now they are saying they can’t stop the leak until the fall. There came a point when I decided I will do what I can using the method that I know.
For every day that oil leaks into the gulf I will take a photo of someone covered in fake oil. These will be put online to remind everyone I know that this is still going on. I am going to tag the volunteers so that their friends are reminded. My generation may be lazy but I’m going to try to stop them from being ignorant. I’ve taken three so far.
Simply boycotting BP won’t work. They aren’t more greedy than other oil companies! They’re just the ones who had the accident. We have to demand clean energy. It CAN be done. The reason it hasn’t is that we keep giving them our money. Greed will change with society. They will go where the money is. People always say we’re powerless but our money talks. Make your money say the right thing.
I need volunteers if I’m to keep this protest going. If you want to be involved contact me at justindbrock@gmail.com. Bring maple syrup and food coloring. Your photo will be posted here. If you’re interested in doing more I would like to start a hair collection in the Huntington area. For more information on how your hair can help click here.
Prove me wrong please. I want to see that my generation actually cares enough to mobilize. Changes for the better have been made on the backs of 20 somethings MANY times. Let’s make it happen again.

I was actually looking just the other day for a place to donate hair for the oil spill efforts. I found that exact same link that you posted. Are you taking one big collection or should long-distance donations be sent in individually?
